CanyaViva revalues the abundant and disregarded cane (Arundo donax) that saturates the degraded Mediterranean landscape.

Using only human resources CanyaViva transform this cane, with rope made from esparto or pita, to create fluid, organic forms that can be applied to bio-construction, living architecture, landscaping and bio-engineering.

CanyaViva uses a manual building technique, based on an understanding of the dynamics of both cane and human physiology, that aids our builders to work sensitively with the material, whilst at the same time improving their own physical health.

Other natural building materials, including straw, clay, yeso and stone, can also be combined with cane to create solid, impermeable and habitable structures that are harmonious with the natural environment.
