The main purpose of the training programs we are currently running in Spain is the formation of local workgroups, capable of using its local resource of cane for its application in bio-construction.

We give progressive training courses, composing of both practical as well as theoretical classes, which cover the entire process of construction in its distinct phases, including resource management (cultivation and harvest), workplace and material preparation, fabrication of constructive elements, and structure mounting and covering (combining practical experience with further theory classes on uses of other complimentary materials such as lime and hemp fibre).

Whilst promoting auto-construction we are always sure to guarantee that all structures built using our technique are of the highest standards. In order to do this we ensure that each phase of the construction process, from harvest until the completion of a project, is supervised by qualified personnel, i.e. someone certified as being capable of instructing, managing and executing the work required.

Certification is therefore necessary for each phase of construction:

I – Resource Management
II – Workplace and material preparation
III – Constructive element fabrication, connection and bending
IV – Foundations and mounting
V – Secondary and woven structures and covering

To obtain each certification it is necessary to acquire the skills and have the ability to teach to others every detail, recognise errors and resolve problems that arise during the given phase of construction.

During our courses we teach each phase of construction, continually supervising and giving close personal attention until each student acquires the skills and knowledge required to carry out the technique with total confidence.

After each course we offer to students the possibility of continuing to practice with us, as well as beginning to gain experience in teaching new students. This may continue until sufficient security to train others is acquired in each phase of construction, in order to receive each certification.

In order to facilitate the correct transmission and application of the technique, we insist, from the start of each course, in the following principles:

  • Concentration in the workplace: taking care of tools, materials and waste.
  • Physical training: adapting the use and condition of the body to the demands of physical work.
  • Teamwork: being conscious of ourselves as team members and respecting others.
  • Respecting the nature.
